amazonSEATTLE — Amazon’s free shipping deadline has been extended on orders that will arrive in time for Christmas, the company announced Tuesday.

Now customers will be able to order as late as 11:59 p.m. EST, Dec. 19, ship for free and packages will still arrive in time for Christmas.

Last year the free shipping Christmas deadline was Dec. 18.

Prime members, who pay $99 a year but don’t pay for shipping, have until Dec. 22 for their last minute orders. In big cities such New York, San Francisco, Baltimore and Indianapolis, prime members will be able to order some items as late as 10 a.m. Dec. 24 and get them the same day for an addition $5.99 fee.

The company made a similar offer last year but had to make refunds bad weather interfered with deliveries the week before Christmas and a backlog was created.
