amazon echoSEATTLE — Amazon says this holiday season was its best ever. The company said it shipped more than 1 billion items throughout the world purchased by customers using Prime membership accounts.

Dec. 23 was the biggest day ever for Prime Now deliveries worldwide, Amazon said in a press release. Members ordered triple the items compared to last year with one- and two-hour delivery worldwide. Echo Dot, Amazon Echo, Fire TV Stick and Oreo Cookies were some of the most popular items ordered that day in the United States, Amazon said.

Overall, devices including Echo Dot, Fire TV Stick, Fire tablet and Amazon Echo were Amazon’s best-selling items.

“Echo and Echo Dot were the best-selling products across Amazon this year, and we’re thrilled that millions of new customers will be introduced to Alexa as a result,” said Jeff Wilke, CEO Worldwide Consumer, Amazon. “Despite our best efforts and ramped-up production, we still had trouble keeping them in stock.”

Alexa is Amazon’s voice-activated app that allows users to give instructions to devices such as the Echo.

Here is Amazon’s list of the most popular ways people used Alexa over the Christmas holiday:

  • Mixing cocktails: Tom Collins and Manhattans were the most requested drinks from Alexa skills including The Bartender, Mixologist and DrinkBoy.
  • Finding recipes: Chocolate chip and sugar cookies were the favorite recipes from Alexa skills like Food Network and Allrecipes.
  • Watching movies: Home Alone and Elf were the most requested holiday movies.
  • Listening to holiday music: Jingle Bells (1999 – Remaster) by Frank Sinatra, All I Want for Christmas Is You by Mariah Carey and Feliz Navidad by José Feliciano.
