STOCKTON – Steve Anthony Colangelo, president and CEO of American Event Rentals, intends to run for the 9th Congressional District seat now held by Rep. Jerry McNerney, he told the Business Journal.

Colangelo, a Republican, has hired Red Rock Strategies from Nevada to manage his campaign. He said he has filed the necessary paperwork and intends to be a candidate for Congress.

“It is no secret that our community is struggling, lagging behind the rest of the country by every economic measure,” Colangelo said. ”While our community leads the way in work ethic, innovation, desire and drive, we continue to pay higher taxes, work longer hours and spend more time away from our families to make ends meet. We deserve better.”

In March he resigned from the chairmanship of the American Rental Association’s (ARA) Government Affairs committee in order to avoid any potential conflict of interest.

According to his LinkedIn page, Colangelo was the San Joaquin County chairman for Meg Whitman’s gubernatorial campaign in 2010.

“I’ve never run for political office. I’m a family man and small business owner that thinks we can do better – and I’m willing to do something about it,” Colangelo said.
