The Save Mart Companies opened a new 43,000-square-foot location in Ceres today. The store is the eighth location to feature the company’s updated branding.
The new grocery store was built next to the previous Ceres location on Whitmore Avenue, and employs 74 workers, 28 of which were created due to the larger size. The previous store opened in July of 1980, transferring existing employees to the new location upon closing June 25.
“We’re bringing the best of what Save Mart has to offer, and shoppers will see a noticeable difference,” said Store Manager Donna Lambert at the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the grand opening of the new store.
In a more nostalgic moment, Save Mart presented Ceres resident Sheryl Trout with a clock that hung in the old store, which her father had built and painted when the old store originally opened.
The new store’s branding is geared more toward customers with busy lifestyles. It features self-checkout lanes, a pharmacy, an expanded selection of organic and bulk foods, a soup bar and a burrito/taco/nacho bar with fresh-made tortillas among other features.
