Retailer JC Penney will help match donations of much needed socks and underwear to local children through local YMCA locations.
To help underserved families during the back-to-school time of year, JC Penney will donate one pack of socks and underwear to the YMCA for every pack sold.
In a study conducted by the department store chain, it found that more than one-third of American parents were worried about their children having enough socks and underwear. Fifty-five percent of children wanted to skip school or refused to go due to the embarrassment of not having adequate socks or underwear.
Until August 15, JC Penney will make the matching donations. Stockton’s JC Penney staff are also holding a drive to fill backpacks with needed school supplies, which will be donated to the YMCA as well.
Those wishing to donate can visit www.ymcasjc.org or call Julia Verduzco at (209) 292-8471.
