Central Valley truck drivers on the road to championships

Three drivers from San Joaquin County are competing in this year’s national truck driving competition.

Truck drivers from Stockton and Tracy are competing in a national driving championship.

Michael Elledge, with Reddaway and Sebastian Mora with Williams Tank Lines, both based in Stockton, and Joe Addison with Safeway in Tracy are top-ranking winners in the California Trucking Association’s 69th Annual Truck Driving Championship Finals.

The finals were held May 20 through 21, and division winners are now competing in the National Truck Driving Championships and National Step Van Driving Championships being held August 9 through 12 in Orlando, Fla.

Mora is the flatbed division winner, Elledge is the twins division winner and Addison won the tanker division. All three are competing in the nationals.

“The National Truck Driving Championship is an opportunity for professional truck drivers to showcase their safety skills and demonstrate their commitment to safety and their precision driving skills,” said Shawn Yadon, CEO of the California Trucking Association in a statement. “Because contestants must have a clean driving record in order to participate, this event recognizes our industry’s commitment to safety and keeping roads safe.”

The national competition judges a driver’s ability to handle his or her vehicle in a series of different driving challenges. The competition also includes a written aspect and vehicle inspection round to accompany the driving tests.

Winners will be announced after competitions end on August 12.
