The Greater Stockton Chamber of Commerce has selected a champion of local entrepreneurs as its 2017 ATHENA Award recipient.
On Sept. 15, the organization announced it had selected Gillian Murphy, a long-time advocate of small business and a mentor to female entrepreneurs throughout the area.
The award will be presented to Murphy and to Kristen Dyke (recipient of the Young Professional Award) at a luncheon on Nov. 16 at the Stockton Golf and Country Club.
Murphy has served on numerous boards to promote business and the community throughout the years. She was the one-time director of the San Joaquin Delta College Small Business Development Center, expanding its service area from San Joaquin County to three other counties.
According to the Chamber of Commerce, Murphy has worked “tirelessly on behalf of women and minorities in our community.” She has received accolades from the San Joaquin Hispanic Chamber, the African American Chamber, the Asian American Chamber, Soroptimist International and the U.S. Small Business Administration.
