Turlock’s Pitman High School Madrigals singing group was chosen as the winner of the Foster Farms Bowl “Oh Say, Can You Sing” contest.
The group was one of 11 finalists that competed for the honor of performing the national anthem at the Foster Farms Bowl on Dec. 27 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara.
Among the finalists were four other Central Valley contestants, which were :
- Danielle Lopez, 15, from Atwater
- Makenna Boutelle, 17, from Turlock
- Madisyn Sumter, 14, from Modesto
- Ashly Gomez, 17, from Ripon
Yohan Partan, the choir director for Pitman High, knew the experience would be beneficial for his group when they auditioned.
“This would be a great experience for the Pitman High School Madrigals,” Partan said. “Each student went through (an) extensive audition process to become a part of the advanced choral ensemble, and they get to experience highly rigorous vocal music education on a daily basis.”
Partan said that he looks for any real-life experience to teach his class.
