Fifteen scholarships worth $1,000 apiece will be awarded by The Save Mart Companies.
Save Mart, along with the National Future Farmers of America, has created the scholarships in a hope that students will focus on a career in the agriculture field.
The FFA, which handles similar programs for companies nationwide, awarded some $2.7 million in scholarships in 2017. The Save Mart scholarship is one of 1,800 that are available through FFA this year.
During the selection process, a student’s background, FFA involvement, work experience, supervised ag experience, community service, leadership skills and academic standings will all be taken into account.
Students wishing to apply for a Save Mart scholarship need to submit applications by Feb. 1, 2018 and must reside within California or Nevada. Applications and more information can be found by visiting ffa.org/scholarships.
Save Mart, which owns more than 200 stores throughout California and Nevada, also operates Mid Valley Dairy and Sunnyside Farms. Students are encouraged to pursue careers with The Save Mart Companies after graduating.
