Looking for a new job? You’d probably like to work for a good company.
Opportunity Stanislaus has partnered with Prime Shine to help answer the question, “what companies in the Central Valley are best to work for?”
In its second year, the Employer of Choice program presents local companies with an opportunity to establish themselves as a leading workplace in Stanislaus County.
“[The] local program … is not an award you can just pay to receive like many others,” said Amber Edwards, marketing and communications manager for Opportunity Stanislaus. “Winning this award means that you are an employer of choice, a place where employees want to stay, and new talent wants to join.”
The service benefits employers in threefold ways: attraction of new talent, retention of existing talent and employee engagement.
“The way it works is companies give a survey (either electronic or paper) to their employees on all aspects of working there, and have the opportunity to leave comments as well. Then management of the company completes a survey about their offerings so that things like benefits and offerings can be taken into consideration,” Edwards explained. “Each company’s surveys are analyzed using a proprietary, objective formula by Best Companies Group in Pennsylvania, and the result is a ranking that either designates them as a best place to work locally or does not.”
Even if a company does not qualify for the Best Place to Work designation, they benefit from the service as experts give quality feedback on areas for improvement.
“Companies who take a good, hard look at their results and implement solutions where improvements are needed will ultimately see great benefit but there are lots of local companies who are already doing things right and deserve recognition and a way to let potential new employees know their organization is recognized from the bottom up as a great place to work,” Edwards said.
Online surveys range from $790 to just under $1,100, while paper surveys range from $1,020 to $1,900 because of the extra logistics. Costs are higher for bigger companies.
Prime Shine has given time and talent to help launch the program but does not contribute financially to the efforts to avoid a conflict of interest. The program is funded by Opportunity Stanislaus. Marketing costs $75 per participant and covers printing of publicity materials and event-related costs.
