Oak Park Arena, the Stockton Heat’s official practice facility, could receive an upgraded lighting system — but the rink needs the help of the community.
The rink was nominated for a promotion hosted by the American Hockey League called Light Like the Pros, along with 32 other rinks. To win, Oak Park must receive the highest number of votes. The first round of voting is underway and ends Feb. 2. Supporters can cast their vote for their favorite one each day.
Oak Park Arena also serves Stockton as a community recreational facility, home to the Stockton Colts Youth Hockey Program, Stockton Figure Skating Club, Learn to Skate Program and other recreational programming, including Try Skating for Free, Public Skate and Curling.
If it wins, a $50,000 LED lighting system will be installed in summer 2018, upgrading Oak Park’s look and function.
“Oak Park Ice Rink is thrilled to be nominated by the Stockton Heat for the Light Up The Rink Like a Pro Promotion,” said SMG General Manager Kendra Clark. “Oak Park Ice Rink is a beloved community recreational facility, and would benefit greatly from the upgrade.”
Ephesus Lighting created the high-output, solid-state sports lighting solution the winner will receive.
Once the first round of voting closes and the top 10 finalists are announced, a second round will be held from Feb. 5 to Mar. 2. Then, from Mar. 5-18, voting will continue with the final four. On Mar. 20, a winner will be announced.
