In an effort to begin broadcasting over FM airwaves, radio station KCBP will be holding a community art auction to raise funds to that end.
On May 18, from 7-8 p.m., KCBP will conduct the auction at the Mistlin Gallery, 1015 J St., in Modesto, with art donated from local artists.
“The Art Auction gives people a chance to take home some great art while supporting KCBP Radio,” said Linda Scheller of KCBP. Scheller co-hosts and co-produces the station’s “Arts of the San Joaquin Valley” segment. “Community radio connects people, and we need to be fully operational by August in order to broadcast the voices of our county … sharing information, news, music, entertainment, stories and issues relevant to our region.”
Works being auctioned have been created by artists such as Edna Mellis, Areline Smee, Rosemary Sotes, Dalina Darton, Ray Ellis, Beverly Venn and Betty Liston. The event is free to attend. Silent bids start as low as $25.
The station currently streams at www.kcbpradio.org. It’s KCBP’s goal to raise $150,000 over the next several months to fund construction costs.
