100 editions well deserve a commemorative book: the Volta a Catalunya celebrates its centenary with the publication of a book, written by the journalist and writer Rafael Vallbona (Barcelona, 1960) and illustrated by a good number of period photographs.
With the support of the La Caixa Foundation, the organization of the race and the Cossetània publishing house They publish ‘Heroes of the Volta, the protagonists of 100 legendary races’, the book that reviews all the winners of the Catalan cycling round.
The book is dedicated to explaining the human and legendary feat of each of the eighty runners who, by winning one or more of the hundred editions of the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya held so far, have contributed to making the history of one of the oldest races in the world.

An incredible roster of cyclists
Cyclists such as Jaques Anquetil, Eddy Merckx, Luis Ocaña, Felice Gimondi, Sean Kelly or Miguel Indurain, or more recently Joaquim Rodríguez and Alejandro Valverde, among many others, have inscribed their names in the Volta list, one of the most prestigious races of the entire international calendar.
With the publication of this book and its dissemination, the Volta adds a new act of commemoration of the 100th edition of the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya, which was played from March 22 to 28, with the triumph of the British Adam Yates.
Among the centenary events held, the entity has presented the documentary “Volta & rdquor; and has paid tribute to historic cyclists of the race by means of special sprints dedicated to Sebastià Masdeu, Mariano Cañardo, Miquel Poblet, Joaquín Galera, Miguel Indurain or Alejandro Valverde.
The author, Rafael Vallbona (Barcelona, 1960), is a writer and journalist: has published books of all kinds of genres. Passionate about cycling, he has participated in international road and mountain events, and has also made some bicycle trips of which he has written books.
