Ronald Koeman’s FC Barcelona was beaten again (3-0) at the Estadio da Luz on the second day of the Champions League group stage. After the debacle against Bayern and a lively and aggressive Benfica, the Catalans added another humiliation and have added zero points out of six possible, something that had not happened since the 1972/73 season.
The Catalans, who completed a disastrous second part in every way, reaped two defeats in their first two European matches for the second time in their entire history. The first and only occasion was exactly 49 years ago: Barcelona lost their first two games to Porto in the first round of the UEFA Cup.

With this defeat, Barcelona are in the last position of group E with zero points, six goals against and none in favor, evidencing the crisis that the club is going through. The thrashing against Bayern and Benfica, in addition to the bad feelings in LaLiga, have set off all the alarms and the Dutch coach, Ronald Koeman, seems to have his days numbered at the helm of the sports project.
The classification, a chimera
The two defeats with a landslide present a particularly complex scenario. The double game against Dinamo Kiev is vital: the Catalans should add six points and wait for Bayern to do the same against Benfica. Jorge Jesús’ team is already the Portuguese club that has achieved the greatest victory against FC Barcelona in the entire history of European competitions.
The precedents are not particularly favorable: a total of 140 teams began the group stage of the Champions League with two defeats and only 12 made it to the second round, so we are talking about a 8.6% probability currently.
