If you have not yet seen Eugenio Derbez’s reality show on Prime Video or if you are waiting for the projects that he has on the way with Disney Plus, we will tell you that the Mexican actor and comedian also has a series on Apple TV Plus called Acapulco, the first series on the platform to be set in Mexico. And we already have the first trailer for this story.
We recommend: Eugenio Derbez regrets being typecast as a comedian and not having more serious roles
Set in the seaside resort on the Pacific coast of Mexico, Acapulco It is narrated by Máximo Gallardo (Eugenio Derbez) in the present, but tells his own story when in 1984 he started working at the most luxurious resort on the coast. Caught between the demands of his new job, with demanding clients, and his growing romance for the hotel owner’s daughter, the young protagonist (played by Enrique Arrizon) must find a balance.
In the trailer, we see how the adult version of the character begins to tell his son about how he got started in the tourism business, in the style of How I Met Your Mother, for example. From there, we see how the twenty-something version of the film’s protagonist has to learn to adapt to his work, the bathers who visit Acapulco and the pressure of his mother (Vanessa Bauche), who is worried that this luxurious environment will change him.
The show is partially inspired by How to be a Latin Lover – 38%, another of Derbez’s highest grossing films. Although, from what we see in the first preview, there seems to be little relationship in terms of the plot of both productions. This will be one of the first international series that will begin to arrive on Apple TV Plus in the following months, with which the platform hopes to compete against the numbers of other streaming services.
This has been a very productive year for Derbez (No refunds – 55%, Dora and the Lost City – 86%, Angry Birds 2 The Movie – 85%) who in early 2021 launched the second season of Traveling with the Derbez, a reality show about his family just a few months after his success at Sundance with the film CODA – 100%, which swept the awards at that independent film festival including the Special Jury Prize for its cast, in which it has a supporting role.

This film tells the story of a young daughter of deaf parents who dreams of becoming a singer. The Mexican plays his music teacher, who encourages his studies in this art despite the disagreement of his parents. The film was also acquired by Apple, who paid the large sum of US $ 25 million for its distribution in the United States.
CODA – 100%, however, will arrive in Mexico this weekend thanks to Diamond Films, so you can find it on the billboard. As to Acapulco, the series will consist of seven episodes in total, each with a duration of half an hour and will arrive on Apple TV Plus starting next October 8.
