Sony Pictures is pursuing its ambitious strategy of adapting multiple PlayStation franchises to film or the small screen. Following the confirmation of the Uncharted and Ghost of Tsushima films, as well as the The Last of Us series, PlayStation Productions’ next project will be a live-action Twisted Metal series. In fact, the company has already confirmed the star signing of its production, the very Anthony Mackie.
Through Deadline, the production company announced that Anthony Mackie to star in Twisted Metal. The actor is one of the most popular today thanks to his participation in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After the goodbye of Chris Evans, Mackie took the shield of Captain America, a role that he finished consolidating in Falcon and the Winter Soldier, one of the exclusive Marvel series for Disney Plus.
Regarding Twisted Metal, we are talking about one of the most representative franchises of the PlayStation brand, although lately it has been stored in the trunk. Twisted Metal was born in 1995 as an exclusive title for the PS1. Its mechanics, which combine driving vehicles and the use of all kinds of weapons and explosives, are distinguished by offering an experience full of action and mayhem. In the series starring Anthony Mackie we can expect the same formula.
“We are delighted to have Anthony Mackie on board. His ability to combine comedy, action and drama is perfect for the twisted world we are creating,” said Asad Qizilbash, Director of PlayStation Productions. The Twisted Metal series script will be the responsibility of Michael Jonathan Smith, also a screenwriter for Cobra Kai. In executive production we find Will Arnett, Marc Forman, Peter Principato, Jason Spire, Carter Swan and the aforementioned Anthony Mackie and Qizilbash. Hermen hulst, current head of PlayStation Studios., is also involved in the project.
The synopsis from Twisted Metal tells us: “Two is a milkman who talks as fast as he drives. With no memory of his past, he has a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to make his wish to find a community come true, but only if he can survive an onslaught of fierce vehicle combat. “
Interestingly, the week before several sources in the video game industry, including VGC and Jeff Grubb, agreed that Sony is working on a new Twisted Metal game. However, its development appears to be at an early stage. The company’s plan would be to make it coincide with the premiere of the series.
