Apple investigates strange pink squares that appear on the monitor of the Mac mini with M1

When it takes a leap as important as Apple’s towards its own SoCs in the Mac line, it is to be expected that not everything goes smoothly. There are many changes that must be carried out, and therefore it won’t always work out perfectly. Now, for example, it seems that flaws have started to emerge that could be related to the macOS Big Sur software.

The new Mac mini supports the XDR Pro Display at 6K, while allowing a 4K display to be connected via HDMI 2.0 connection.

Some users of the Mac mini with M1 chip have begun to report the appearance of pink squares on their active screens while using the Apple computer. This problem would be more common when using an HDMI cable to connect your Mac to a monitor rather than a Thunderbolt 3, although the reasons are not particularly clear yet.

On the part of Apple, and as MacRumors has already shared, an investigation has already been initiated to clarify the causes and remedy it as soon as possible. No specific dates have been given on when they could have a solution ready, but they do have provided a series of steps to take in case it happens with our unit.

To begin with, the Mac mini must be put to sleep, a state in which we will keep it for a couple of minutes. Then we will disconnect the monitor and connect it to the Mac mini again. Finally, we will adjust the resolution of this in System Preferences, Display. If the problem recurs, they must be started over.

In principle, and according to what has been seen in recent weeks, it could be a problem directly related to the operating system itself, so we wouldn’t have to wait too long to see it resolved. However, in the event of a hardware problem, Apple would take care of it quickly, so there is no reason to worry.
