Apple TV + adds “Cherry” to its film premieres for 2021
“Cherry” is a crime drama that is adapted from a novel by Nico Walker and will be directed by Anthony and Joe Russo. Given his plot, we will see Holland playing a very different role from the superhero that brought him to world fame in recent years.
As can be seen in the trailer, Tom Holland plays a Cleveland man named Walker who joins the military after being rejected by a girlfriend. He becomes an army medic in Iraq and is traumatized by the experience, suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
Following this diagnosis, Walker is prescribed Oxycontin to treat his post-traumatic stress disorder, eventually leading to a heroin addiction. To pay for the drugs Walker begins robbing banks.
In addition to this project whose rights earned Apple 40 million dollars, the platform announced the signing of an upcoming two-part documentary that will focus on similar themes to her show with Oprah Winfrey. The documentary will narrate 25 years of American history through the lens of Oprah Winfrey interviews.
