Attack leaves 33 injured in southern Afghanistan

A truck loaded with explosives exploded on Monday morning near the governor’s office and police headquarters in Daman district, provincial governor spokesman Bahir Ahmadi told dpa. “Seven civilian government employees, two soldiers from the intelligence services, nine police officers and 15 civilians from a nearby house were injured in the blast,” the official said.

Officials said most of the victims were slightly injured. Those in critical condition were taken to hospital.

The police headquarters and the district administrative office were partially damaged.

There was no immediate claim for the incident.

Kandahar is one of the many unstable provinces where Taliban militants are actively operating.
