Be extremely cautious if you have received an email of these characteristics: it is a dangerous scam that impersonates the identity of Correos to deceive the victims.
Correos is one of the favorite hooks for cybercriminals to carry out their malicious campaigns. In recent months, the rise of e-commerce has led to the proliferation of scams using the name of the postal company to deceive the victims, so it is important that you check your inbox with caution.
One of the most widespread scams is that of the Mail scam SMS, which conceals phishing campaigns to steal your banking and personal details. But it is not the only strategy, so you have to be alert to any communication you receive from the postal company.
The National Cybersecurity Institute (INCIBE) now warns of a new campaign that impersonates the identity of Correos to infect your PC with malware. On this occasion, the campaign is carried out through an email supposedly sent in the absence of the recipient of an order.
The email received by the victim quite well mimics the layout of the postal company’s official communications, so it can easily fool many users.
As you can see in the screenshot that we leave you on these lines, unlike other scams, in this case the email does not request any personal data, something that also contributes to the success of the campaign because the victim is less suspicious by not having to enter sensitive information.
The body of the message indicates that the postal company has tried to deliver an order but no one was at the address, so the package has been returned to the distribution center. It offers a link to track the order, and clicking on it downloads a file to your computer.
This file contains malware, and if it is run, it will install a Trojan on the computer that will disguise itself as legitimate applications to steal personal data or will try to install other viruses on the PC.
If you have received this email and have downloaded and run the file, run an analysis of your computer with your antivirus and follow the program’s instructions to remove the malware.

To avoid being a victim of these scams, pay close attention to the communications that reach you from the Post Office by any means (SMS, email, WhatsApp, etc.) and do not follow the links or download the attachments.
The postal company will not notify you through these channels of absences or pending shipments, but will leave you a written notification in your mailbox.
