Biden will give some names that will make up his government at the beginning of next week, as reported, among others, by the CNN news network. Last Thursday, the president-elect confirmed that he already knows who will be his secretary of the Treasury.

The president-elect of the United States, Joe Biden, met this Friday with the leaders of the Democrats in both legislative houses Nancy Pelosi (House of Representatives) and Chuck Schumer (Senate) to define the steps that his Government will take in the first 100 days in office.

Among the priorities mentioned at the meeting, in which the vice president-elect, Kamala Harris, was also present, the financial support to small businesses and families in economic difficulties due to the pandemic, as well as a “strong response against the coronavirus” stand out.

THE STIMULUS AGAINST COVID-19 IN THE AIR

Biden’s team said in a statement after the meeting that another of the key points for Biden is to approve an economic stimulus package in response to the pandemic in the first session of Congress after taking office.

In the absence of knowing what will happen in the tight senatorial races in Georgia that the Senate will decide, Biden’s goal is to reach an agreement between both parties, according to the statement.

The negotiation of the stimulus package to combat the coronavirus has remained frozen for months in the absence of an agreement between Pelosi, the Republican leader in the Senate, Mitch McConnel, and the Secretary of the Treasury, Steven Mnuchin.

The latter has announced that it will not maintain several loan programs dependent on the Federal Reserve that made it easier to get debts to companies and local authorities, something that is seen as an attempt to limit Biden’s margin of action to come to power by experts such as the award Nobel Prize in Economics, Paul Krugman, who on Twitter called it “sabotage.”
