After addressing biblical themes in Noé (2014) and ¡Madre! (2017), the New York director will return to the big screen with a film that promises to be his most intimate and dramatic project since El luchador (2008). Specific, Darren aronofsky is already preparing a next feature film entitled The Whale, which will feature the famous Brendan fraser as the leading man.
The Whale will be a film adaptation of the award-winning 2012 play of the same name, written by the playwright Samuel D. Hunter. The original libretto tells the story of a man weighing more than 250 kilograms who, depressed, voluntarily locks himself in his apartment, with the intention of eating himself to death. Brendan Fraser (Trust) will play this hurt character in the film directed by Darren Aronofsky, while Hunter himself will be responsible for the film script.
“Adapting my play to a script has been a true labor of love for me,” the American playwright told Deadline. “This story is deeply personal and I am very grateful that it has the opportunity to reach a wider audience. I’ve been a fan of Darren since I watched Requiem for a Dream when I was a freshman in college writing my first plays. I am very grateful that [Aronofsky] bring your unique talents and vision to this film. “
The prestigious company A24 (Moonlight, Midsommar, El faro…) acquired the international distribution rights and will co-produce with the Aronofsky brand Protozoa Pictures. Reports indicate that, although it is not confirmed, it is very likely that the photography of The Whale was in charge of Matthew libatique, a frequent collaborator of the aforementioned filmmaker and an Oscar nominee for his work in El cisne negro (2010).
According to Indiewire, an approved synopsis dictates the following:
«From Darren Aronofsky comes The Whale, the story of a lonely English teacher suffering from severe obesity and trying to reconnect with his estranged teenage daughter for one last chance at redemption. Starring Brendan Fraser and based on the acclaimed play by Samuel D. Hunter.
It is unknown when filming will begin on this, Aronofsky’s first collaboration with A24. Excited?

Toño Guzmán I have a very bad memory. Out of solidarity with my memories, I choose to lose myself too. Preferably in a movie theater.
