COLLEGE MOUND, Texas – A child died Saturday and five other minors were injured after an SUV collided with the go-kart in which the group was traveling east of Dallas, according to authorities.
The College Mound Fire Department reported the crash occurred at 12:32 p.m. between FM 2727 and County Road 167.
The six children were traveling in a go-kart on CR-167 westbound when they were struck at the intersection by a southbound van, the department reported on its Twitter account.
One of the children died at the scene of the accident and the other five were seriously injured. Three were transported by air and the other two by road.
The minors are between 7 and 12 years old.
The driver of the SUV was not injured, the College Mound Fire Department added on Twitter.
The life of a 19-year-old woman was saved thanks to the quick response by civilians and a sheriff who were on the scene at the time of the ATV crash.
