The presidents of the New Progressive Party (PNP), Thomas rivera schatz, and Popular Democratic (PPD), Aníbal José Torres, demanded this Sunday to postpone the primaries, given the difficulties that made it impossible for citizens to cast their votes in polling stations around the island.
“Given the ineptitude of the president of the EEC (Juan Ernesto Davila) to handle the primaries. We met (with Rivera Schatz), determining to paralyze the processTorres said.
Meanwhile, Rivera Schatz called the deficiencies in the EEC “unsustainable” and “unacceptable”. Both spoke at a press conference.
After 2pm, out of 110 precincts, 59 had not received the briefcases with ballots and resources necessary to complete the event.
The request was accepted by the primary committees of both parties and formalized in a certification shared by the EEC.
“Eight (8) hours will be guaranteed so that voters can exercise their right to vote. On the contrary, those electoral precincts where voting has not started at 1:45 pm, the election will be suspended until next Sunday, 16 August 2020 from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm “, reads the certification.
It establishes that it is prohibited to filter the preliminary results of any school. The machines, it was stated, would be shut down.
They demand a plan to address the chaos.
