China records first coronavirus death since mid-May

The National Health Commission of China reported this Thursday a new death for the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus. It is the first time that the Asian country has announced a death from this cause since last May 17.

According to health authorities, the death occurred in the northeastern province of Hebei, that surrounds Beijing, and that is the scene of a regrowth that has led to the closure of three cities, including the provincial capital, Shijiazhuang, with 11 million inhabitants.

With this new death, the official death toll from COVID-19 in mainland China stands at 4,635.

Likewise, the source announced on Thursday the detection of 138 new cases of the coronavirus, the data of new infections highest since early March. On March 6, the institution announced 143 cases, although then the report also included 30 deaths.
