Something very true of the MCU is that not all movies have the same impact on the way the general history of this cinematic universe progresses. A clear example is Shang-Chi and the legend of the ten rings – 95%. The function that it has within the great general panorama was to introduce some characters, logically including the protagonist, but also the Ten Rings and many other characters. The point is that, at the moment, it is not obvious what impact it may have beyond that. Quite the contrary, to a series like Loki – 96% that it introduced the multiverse and that, therefore, will have repercussions in the following Doctor Strange and Spider-Man films.

Eternals is a movie that looks like it’s going to have the same impact as Shang-chi in the MCU. I mean, it’s going to introduce a number of new characters to the universe, but it doesn’t seem like it’s going to change the rules of that world or anything, or expand it significantly. The thing is, Chloé Zhao just said that, actually, that’s going to be the case with this new film that opens in November. He mentioned that in an interview for GamesRadar. His words were that the movie can be seen as a separate entity, but he feels like it’s going to have a pretty big impact on the future of the MCU. Here his exact words:
I think we are an autonomous film without a doubt. But I also think that we are going to have a big effect on the future of the MCU with what is going to happen in this movie. Which, you know, as a fan, is really satisfying for me. I go crazy with pleasure, as a geek, with this.
Of course, we do not know what he may be referring to by this, since the details about the plot are minimal, beyond the trailers, and above all, because what can have a great impact is going to be one of the great surprises. Of the plot. What we would all think is that at least the film will make it clear that now the Avengers already know of the existence of this group of immortal heroes.

On the other hand, before it was released Loki, In an interview Kevin Feige has revealed that this was going to be the series that will have the most impact on the MCU up to that point. So he said in a conversation for Empire magazine. Furthermore, he hinted that what fans are thinking about Loki it’s probably going to be truer than with the other shows:
It is tremendously important. It’s probably going to have more of an impact on the MCU than any of the shows released thus far. What everyone thought of WandaVision and was somehow true and what everyone thought of Falcon and the Winter Soldier and was somehow true is going to be even more true in a sense in Loki. You want to see your characters change and evolve after about six hours. We don’t make these shows so they’re not radical, right?
In the end his words turned out to be completely true. There were fans who were assuming that the series was going to introduce Kang, due to Ravonna Renslayer’s presence on TVA. They were right, but it not only created waves in the MCU because of the inclusion of a villain of that size, but because it confirmed and introduced the concept of the multiverse in the MCU. Which, as we can see, is going to be key in later films and series. We will have to wait a couple of months to find out if Eternals it’s going to have an impact of this magnitude.
