Xbox established The Initiative in 2019 in an attempt to strengthen the catalog of exclusive games for its Xbox and PC ecosystem and which promised to launch “AAAA” productions. One of the most important creatives of the developer, Drew Murray, was key in its founding, but recently announced that he would leave the studio and today it is known that he will return to a Sony studio.
At the beginning of February of this year, the creative unveiled after a “bittersweet” farewell that would leave the internal Microsoft studio. At the time, Murray had not mentioned what his next step in his career would be, but today he just agreed that he will return as lead director to Insomniac Games, a studio that belongs to Sony after its purchase in 2019.

“I think 10 years, 5 games and 6 job titles are not enough. I am excited to meet many friends and former colleagues at Insomniac Games as lead designer. That brings me to my seventh job title; Now I just need to work a few days and play a few games, right? ”Murray commented.
The Initiative is currently working on the development of Perfect Dark, a project on which Murray served as design director. It is important to remember that when he announced that he was leaving the study, he said that he would do so for personal reasons.
Murray to continue his extensive career at Insomniac Games
Murray is an industry veteran, starting his professional career when he originally joined Insomniac Games more than 15 years ago, and his first project was Resistance: Fall of Man, a PlayStation 3 exclusive game on which he worked as an associate designer.
Since then, the creative had worked on multiple games from the studio, including Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction (designer), Resistance 2 (senior designer), Resistance 3 (lead designer) and Sunset Overdrive (director) and in 2018 announced that would leave the study to later reveal that it was part of The Initiative. Murray said he plans to keep making video games “for at least 20 or 30 more years.”
That said, Insomniac Games and, by extension, Sony, will bring back some of its most important creatives. It is known that the studio works on Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, so it is possible that Murray will join this project or perhaps one that has not been announced, taking into account that the new installment of Ratchet & Clank will debut this year , which would lead to a new project. We will keep you informed.
