The company accuses the drivers of failing to comply with minimum services, which has forced more than 300 trains to stop running, and the unions say they were not delivered the minimum services letter
Strike Close Strike Madrid: minimum services are reduced for today and on October 1, 4 and 5
The first day of the eight strikes called by the Renfe drivers began with chaos in the Cercanas de Barcelona and Valencia networks and an exchange of accusations between the convening union, Semaf, and the company. This complaint that a total of 325 trains that had to cover minimum services has not circulated in these two communities, and to a lesser extent in Madrid. The unions argue that the minimum service letter was not delivered to the drivers.
This Thursday started the first day of the eight-day strike to provoke the cancellation 892 trains only in the first four days and to continue on days 4, 5, 7, 8, 11 and 12 of this month.
According to the company, the circulation of 50% of the services in Rodales de Catalua (195 trains that should have circulated as minimum services), 57% of the Cercanas de Valencia (43 minimum services trains) and 26 % in the Cercanas de Madrid (87 trains).
To all these suspensions are added those that were contemplated by the Ministry of Transport, Mobility and Urban Agenda (which contemplated the suspension of 25% of trains at rush hour) and the Generalitat de Catalua (suspension of 15% of trains at rush hour).
“All this explains the difficulties that have been experienced this morning in these three neighborhoods of Cercanas, aggravated by the failure to comply with some minimum services”, denounces the company, which says that these absences are “unjustified” and “deliberate”, and is studying measures against those who “have decided not to appear at their jobs despite having a minimum service letter.”
However, the Spanish Union of Train Machinists and Railway Helpers (Semaf), which represents 85% of the group, has justified these absences, pointing out that they have been produced by “the bad management of the minimum services by Renfe”, which “has caused that do not deliver the aforementioned letter to many drivers. ” They denounce that in Stands These letters were delivered yesterday to less than a third of the staff.
The National Court had yesterday reduced the minimum services set by Transportes for the Cercanas service, considering that they were excessive, since the percentage established at peak hours implied a “serious impediment” to the right to strike.
The ministry had set Nearby a percentage of 100% with respect to the current service levels in peak hours and 75% in the rest of the day, while in medium distance it established an average of 65% of current services, in AVE and long distance of 72%, and 24% for merchandise.
The convening union demands the compliance with the employment plan and agreements on the transfer of powers with some autonomous communities. He accuses Renfe of having took advantage of the health crisis to eliminate trains and cut about 700 jobs.
Renfe, for its part, points out that “there are no reasons for this strike, since the company is complying with the Employment Plan agreed with the unions and wants to incorporate 920 new machinists into service this year.”
“The company wants apologize to travelers who are suffering the consequences of an absolutely unjustified strike and the inadmissible position of the leaders of the machinists’ union “, these sources point out.
