(Bloomberg) – With a population of just 18 million, Chile reports new cases of COVID-19 at a rate comparable, in per capita terms, to Spain at the peak of the virus’s spread in March. Most of the cases are in Santiago, since the quarantines failed to stop the spread of the disease in the poorest and most populated areas. Hospitals in the capital are near the limit of their capacity and food shortages have already sparked protests.
