Hurricane Nana made landfall early Thursday on the coast of Belize, between Dangriga and Placencia, reported the National Hurricane Center (NHC).
According to the NHC’s 1:00 am ET Thursday bulletin, the system was located 50 miles southeast of Belize City, and 35 miles northeast of Monkey River Town, Belize. It had maximum sustained winds of 75 miles per hour and was moving west at 16 miles per hour.
The government of Belize issued a hurricane watch for the coast from Belize City south to the border with Guatemala. A hurricane watch was in effect for the coast of Belize, from north of Belize City to the border with Mexico.
A tropical storm warning was in effect for Yucatán, Mexico, from the Costa Maya port to Chetumal, as well as for the coast of Belize, from north of Belize City to the Mexican border, and for the Caribbean coast. of Guatemala, in addition to the island of Roatán and the rest of the Bay Islands in Honduras.
Meanwhile, a tropical storm watch had been issued for the northern coast of Honduras, from Punta Patuca, westward, to the border with Guatemala.
