PHOENIX, Arizona – A woman was killed and five other people were injured during a shooting at a clandestine party at an empty building in Phoenix, Arizona, authorities confirmed.
The ages of the victims range from 17 to 20, and some of the youths have life-threatening injuries.
Police received a report of a shooting at a building near 35th Avenue and Earll Drive around 5:30 a.m., said Sgt. Ann Justus, a Phoenix police spokeswoman.
Responding officers found a woman inside with a gunshot wound. They took her to hospital where she was later pronounced dead, Justus said.
Around the same time, Justus said the department began receiving calls reporting that more victims with gunshot wounds were coming to local hospitals for treatment. By 9 a.m., the department had identified five victims in total.
According to authorities, the group did not have permission to be in the building and charges may be filed for trespassing. The Police Department is aware that there have been several similar illegal parties recently.
As of Saturday morning, Justus said police had not confirmed who owned the building and had no information on the suspect or the reasons behind the deadly shooting.
