According to SPIN, Danny Elfman mentioned the origin of this song: “’Sorry’ was the first song I’ve written for myself in a long time. It started out as an obsessive instrumental choral work, which I called ‘alien orchestral chamber punk’ at the time, and slowly evolved into a song. I was amazed at the amount of rage I had been storing inside me that erupted as soon as I recorded my voice. ”
