For Variety, Rebecca ferguson mentions the first time you spoke to Denis for the role of Lady Jessica, a time when she did not have much knowledge about the science fiction literary saga. She admits that playing a concubine didn’t attract her attention at first, and she even thought about not accepting, but the truth is that she was dying to work with the director.
They asked me to have a meeting with Denis and we had one on Skype or Zoom. I didn’t know much about Dune and I was thrown into the world of Denis’s vision and his story, and he explained this amazing character to me, and yes, to be honest, there were times when I thought, ‘Okay, concubine, she can kick rear. It’s okay.’ I mean, at the same time, it would be a bottom kettle for Dennis, I don’t care.
The 37-year-old actress also comments that it was with the help of Denis Villeneuve who ended up falling in love with Lady Jessica and her role in the story of Dune.
Denis was one of the main directors I wanted to work with, so I felt uncomfortable, shy and excited and happy. And although I did not criticize, I think I could not see and understand the gray areas that Denis was talking about, I did not understand the subtlety of being a mother and the powerful Bene Gesserit, I saw it separately; and when little by little I understood the balance, the intricate balance of these women, I fell in love. I didn’t think I was going to get the part.
