Eduardo Berizzo is sentenced as Paraguayan coach. The poor results of the Guaraníes in the qualifying phase for the World Cup in Qatar have placed the Argentine coach in an unsustainable and almost irreversible situation.
The Paraguayan Soccer Association (APF) has had enough Not only from the obvious sporting downturn of the national team, which has not won any of the last six World Cup qualifying matches, but also from the working methods and lack of commitment of its current coach.
Berizzo has lost the confidence of the leaders, the fans and the press who criticize him harshly for how the Guaraníes play. The absence of a competitive and fighting character that has always characterized Albirroja and Paraguayan clubs in the Copa Libertadores and in the South American is not forgiven.
The dismissal of the former Athletic Club, Sevilla and Celta de Vigo coach could occur hours after the match against Venezuela, that Thursday will close the triple round of the South American qualifiers, in which Paraguay has only added one point. He lost to Ecuador (2-0) with a blurred performance and no game pattern, and on Sunday, playing in Asunción, he could only tie with Colombia (1-1).
With eight points from eight rounds and a single victory, Paraguay is currently sixth in the South American qualifiers. It is two points behind Colombia, which occupies the playoff spot, and four points behind Uruguay, which is the last classified in qualifying positions for Qatar.
The entire second round of the qualifying phase is missing, and the APF considers that there is time, quality and equipment to react and try to scratch, at least, the play-off square.
