The European Union is taking a further step in the fight against human rights violations around the world. Member State Ambassadors agreed on legislation establishing a global sanctions regime targeting those responsible for acts of genocide, crimes against humanity, extrajudicial killings, arbitrary arrests and detentions, torture, slavery, human trafficking and other violations of fundamental rights and freedoms.
