Katherine Sandberg helps employers surmount California’s tough legal landscape by implementing practical, business-minded policies and conducting training to avoid lawsuits. She follows through with an aggressive defense if litigation arises. In particular, Katherine has a demonstrated track record of favorable outcomes in federal and state court for clients facing claims of discrimination, harassment, retaliation, and unfair competition. Moreover, she has guided clients through difficult interactions with administrative agencies and claimants to resolve disputes before a lawsuit is ever filed. Katherine’s clients have praised her ability to incorporate value, efficiency, and creativity to accomplish their goals.
Katherine also has significant experience defending business owners in public accommodation access litigation involving claims of inaccessibility of facilities filed under Title II of the Americans with Disabilities Act, California’s Unruh Civil Rights Act, and various federal and state regulations. Her background in construction litigation instilled an eye for details and the ability to quickly understand technical, complex issues.
In 2017, Katherine was recognized as a California Super Lawyers Rising Star, a prestigious list of attorneys who undergo a rigorous selection process of evaluations based on indicators such as peer recognition and individual achievement. No more than 2.5 percent of attorneys in the state are selected to receive this honor.
While in law school, Katherine served as the Chief Managing Editor of the McGeorge Law Review. She is a prolific writer, and her legal scholarship has been published in multiple law reviews. Her article in the San Joaquin Agriculatural Law Review, which discusses Cal/OSHA heat illness prevention compliance for outdoor workers, was awarded the 2014 Stauffer Charitable Trust Award for Outstanding Student Scholarship and Excellence in Writing. She graduated with distinction from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law and was inducted into the Roger J. Traynor Honor Society.
Program Goals and Objectives
This ½ day seminar will be held in 3 parts. Part 1 will cover how FMLA and CFRA interact (or don’t) for a covered employer, what the rights and obligations are for both employees and employers and how to overcome those that abuse the system. Part 2 will add an additional layer covering what happens when FMLA/CFRA ends – ADA/FEHA begins. Part 3 will conclude with how all of these come to play when covering a pregnant employee and review some scenarios to apply what has been covered during the presentations.
