First Resident Evil Village game, surprise release of “Maiden” demo, collaboration with The Division 2

Today’s Resident Evil Showcase just wrapped up, so in case you missed it, here’s a rundown of the great things that went into the show.

The biggest, of course, is Resident Evil Village. Today we took our first look at the gameplay, along with some new details about the game. I’m not going to spoil them for you in case you try to avoid all the spoilers, but at least I’ll say that the internet’s favorite tall vampire (now known to be called Lady Dimitrescu) definitely gets more screen time.

(The gameplay video is not available at the time of writing, so for now, you can find it as part of the Resident Evil Sample.)

Capcom also finally gave us a date for the Villa of Resident Evil: May 7, 2021. A surprising detail, or not at all surprising, is that the game will also arrive on current platforms. Only the PlayStation 4 version was announced as the stream was done in conjunction with Sony, but it will obviously be coming out on Xbox One as well. Capcom mentioned that the digital version of PS4 would get a free update to PS5, but no mention was made of how. that will work on Xbox, although I imagine it will be a basic Smart Delivery update like many other games.

However, there is another important date that must be taken into account: January 21, 2021. As in, today. Why? Because today a special demo will be released for PlayStation 5 that will allow players to experience the game through the eyes of a character called « The Maiden. » A separate demo is coming to all other platforms (Xbox One, Xbox Series X / S, PS4, PC), but it won’t arrive until spring.

Also revealed during the show was RE: Verse, the game Capcom had recently been beta testing for. RE: Verse will be free for everyone who purchases Resident Evil Village, and is a new multiplayer game that « features beloved characters from Resident Evil as they face off in six-person deathmatches. »

Finally, in the strangest part of the show, it was revealed that a new collaboration between Resident Evil and Tom Clancy’s The Division 2 is going to take place. « Iconic outfits, weapon skins, and more » are being added to the game, and in the quick teaser, we got to see outfits for Jill, Chris, Rebecca (at least from what I see), Leon, and Hunk. Leon’s suit, by the way, will be free to anyone who logs into the game from February 2-15.
