DeSantis, who since the beginning of the health emergency has put Florida’s seniors first, posted on his Twitter account the results of the SeniorFirst vaccination campaign, which his state leads.
“In Florida, we are putting #SeniorsFirst and seeing results. Almost 65% of all our vaccinations to date have been for people over 65, more than in any other state in the nation, “he said.
Florida was the first US state to vaccinate more than 500,000 people 65 and older, and is one of only three states to vaccinate more than a million people.
According to health authorities, Florida continues to have the highest percentage of vaccinations administered to people 65 years of age and older, and vaccines in that age group account for almost 65% of all vaccinations in the state.
“Florida remains steadfast in our commitment to putting seniors first and the numbers speak for themselves,” said the Governor. Florida is home to 4.5 million seniors and more than 500,000 have been vaccinated, representing 65% of the total vaccinations administered statewide.
The governor explained that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is shifting its focus to follow Florida’s lead and recommends that states prioritize people 65 and older for vaccine administration.
“As we roll out vaccines, we will continue to leverage innovative strategies and partnerships to maximize distribution and availability to keep older people first,” added DeSantis.
