Something that we all know about the latest Batman movies is that they are inspired by iconic comics of this character, but they are not adaptations of them; In other words, Christopher Nolan and Zack Snyder have been inspired by some iconic scenes or moments from graphic novels like Batman: The Long Halloween or The Dark Knight Returns. In fact, from this latest graphic novel came several iconic moments and dialogue that we could see in Batman vs Superman: Dawn of Justice – 27%. In that story written by Frank Miller we can see Batman fight against Superman, but there it happens because the latter is a pawn of the government.

That has always raised a question. What do you think of that Frank Miller? The reality is that the writer in recent years has become quite a problematic figure due to his Islamophobia and his radical views on certain political issues. That would make us think that maybe he would not take it very well. He recently had a conversation with The Beard and The Bald Movie Podcast. There this issue came out and he revealed that, indeed, he did not take it very well at first, but over the years his attitude about it changed and now it seems to him something great. Here are his exact words on that matter:
I really have to say about it that a few years have passed since this all started, ok? And at first, my reaction was to be very territorial and all that that entails. And now I’ve kind of taken it slower, exhaling deeply and with a deeper insight into the whole thing and all I can say is: this is great. I mean, I came up with my great idea for The Dark Knight Returns and that was the big impact that I had, which started my entire career. And since then I have seen the two camps collaborate with each other. I have benefited greatly from Dark Knight Returns, and so have they and will continue to do so. And it can only be seen as a healthy relationship.

On the other hand, Zack snyder has been saying lately that he wanted to make a completely faithful live-action adaptation of that legendary graphic novel of Miller about the Dark Knight. First, he revealed to League of Mayhem Stream in 2020 that it’s a dream he hopes to fulfill one day (via .):
I recently saw a tweet saying ‘Snyder needs to stop reading Dark Knight Returns, he needs to read another Batman comic’. I almost replied to him on Twitter. I’m sure Jay [Oliva] he responded like ‘there are no others!’ I am so obsessed with that comic. I’ve always thought that maybe one day in the future, we would do it with a decrepit Batman. It’s a dream that I have.
A few months ago he revealed in an interview for the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast that he would like to make an adaptation of this graphic novel in the style of the one he did of Watchmen, The Watchmen – 65%:
I think it could be its own thing. I would do it 100% Watchmen style. Very faithful to the vignettes. I really would. I don’t think it would be that expensive, to be honest. It is very raw.
Of course, as the director and Warner no longer get along very well, let’s say, that is something that will not happen in the near future and most likely not in the distant future.
