LAS VEGAS – The Undefeated Super Featherweight Gabriel Flores Jr. will fight the former world title challenger Jayson Velez in a 10-round clash on Saturday, February 20, as the co-feature of the long-awaited Mexican showdown between the WBC super featherweight world champion Miguel “Alacrán” Berchelt and the undefeated former featherweight champion Oscar Valdez.
Velez replaces former world champion Andrew Cancio, who suffered a back injury.
In a Top Rank promotion, in association with Zanfer Promotions, Berchelt-Valdez and Flores-Velez will be televised live on ESPN and ESPN Deportes at 10 pm ET / 7 pm PT.
Velez (29-7-1, 21 KOs), of Juncos, Puerto Rico, is quickly returning to the ESPN airwaves after his spirited effort against Valdez last July. He lost by TKO in the 10th round after suffering a couple of falls. A 14-year-old professional, Velez has wins over former two-weight world champion Juan Manuel “Juanma” López, former WBC super bantamweight world champion Víctor Terrazas and then-undefeated prospect Alberto Mercado.
