It is no secret that Google is developing a folding mobile. The company, in fact, confirmed in 2019 that they intended to launch devices with flexible displays in the coming years. Everything indicates that by the end of 2021 we will be able to see the so-called “Passport” —also known as Pixel Fold—. Now, new reports point to a second folding different from the one rumored in recent months.
It has been the version of Android 12.1, which will come later, which has given indications of a new smartphone with a flexible screen. The code name of this device is “Jumbojack”, according to sources related to the internal development of Android through 9to5Google. It is believed that this second folding mobile from Google it could be a prototype for internal use. That is, the company would not release it to the market, but instead would use it to test software functions related to flip-up displays.
However, the aforementioned means ensures that the folding mobile is listed as a Pixel, the trademark that Google uses for its devices. Therefore, it is also possible that the company will launch this smartphone on the market in the future.
Google’s first folding mobile will arrive before the end of the year
The appearance of this new folding mobile from Google is not entirely clear. Android 12 tests being carried out on the smartphone show the ability to activate a split screen with multiple apps, similar to the one offered by Galaxy Z Fold mobiles. This suggests that the device will have a flip-out screen to reveal a larger panel.
The code name, however, seems to refer to the ‘Jumbo Jack’ hamburger, from the fast food chain ‘Jack in the Box’. It could mean, therefore, that the folding would have a “hamburger” design, making the terminal screen fold inwards and the parts of the screen are one on top of the other. That is to say, look more similar to Galaxy Z Flip.
The details of this second folding mobile from Google are, at the moment, very scarce, so it is unlikely that it will be announced this year. Known as “Passport”, on the other hand, yes expected by the end of 2021. Evan Blass, a popular device leaker, said the foldable “will launch before the end of the year.” It will be the first smartphone with a flexible screen from Google. It is expected to keep the advancements of the Pixel 6, as well as some exclusive software features that will allow you to take full advantage of the flip-up screen.
