The nominations for the London Critics Circle are here, an award that, as its name suggests, is awarded by specialized British critics. In an extraordinary move, it was announced that, on this occasion, the ceremony will be virtual and, in addition, a large number of feature films presented through streaming platforms were chosen.
Chloe Zhao’s Nomadland has a high chance of winning awards.
In addition to this, according to the Deadline and The Hollywood Reporter portals, this year it is led by tapes made by women. For example, Rose Glass’s Saint Maud garnered eight nominations, including Movie of the Year, Directing, Writing, Actress, and Supporting Actress. It is not surprising that this happens, as the psychological horror project is being praised by both locals and strangers, also topping the charts in other awards, such as the British Independent Film Awards.
Then comes the coming-of-age drama Rocks, directed by Sarah Gavron, which has six nominations, and Chloe Zhao’s very famous Nomadland, with five nominations. Follow the acclaimed Promising Young Woman, directed by Emerald Fennell and starring Carey Mulligan, with four nominations. Also present competing in four categories are Mank, by David Fincher, and Lovers Rock, by Steve McQueen.
Rich Cline, head of the circuit film section, had the following to say regarding the contenders and the new modality:
“This additional eligibility had an extra effect on our members this year, watching more movies than usual. And sure enough, we had 224 movies on our ballots, of which 49 were nominated. As always, there are a few surprises that make our lists stand out, even in this year’s unusual awards season. And it’s great to see such a range of talent recognized that spreads across genres, ethnicities, and production budgets.”.
Rose Glass ‘Saint Maud leads the nominations for the London Critics’ Circle Film Awards.

José Roberto Landaverde Cinephile and music lover. I love writing, listening, reading and commenting on everything related to the seventh art. I think Fleetwood Mac is underrated. I’m a Rocky and Back to the Future fan and of course one day I’ll go up the “Philly Steps” and drive a DeLorean. Faithful believer that the cinema is the best teleportation machine, and also that on the big screen we can all see ourselves represented.
