Game of Thrones – 59% closed as one of the biggest disappointments of 2019 and, we cannot deny it, it has been a bit forgotten. What at one time was the most pirated series in the history of the small screen, left a nauseating and dark trail due to that eighth season that disgusted the fandom and critics. But HBO does not intend to give up on Westeros and that is why very soon it will launch House of the Dragon, a series located several centuries before the main series. During his recent appearance on The Stuff Dreams Are Made Of podcast (via Comicbook), George RR Martin talks about the dragons that we will see in the new production.
Do not miss: Reasons why Game of Thrones has lost relevance over the years
One of the strongest points of game of Thrones It was the dragons, everyone knows that. Drogon, Viserion and Rhaegal enchanted audiences since they were first seen at the end of the first season. By the seventh they were still young but had reached surprising dimensions, wowing viewers with their displays of fire and power. It was a real shame to see the two smallest fall, one of them in the most ridiculous way possible thanks to the writers.
But House of dragon promises to be very different in treating his dragons and George RR Martin, author of the novels and screenwriter on the series, is very excited about the prospect. Here are his recent statements on the arrival of the magnificent beasts to the new series:
We invite you to read: 5 anime you must see if you’re a Game of Thrones fan
I always thought this is a cool story, it’s one that I like, so I’m looking forward to seeing it come to life on screen. And of course I’m looking forward to seeing the dragons! Obviously I love dragons. We had three of them on Game of Thrones, but now we’ll have 17 of them. And hopefully each one will have their own personality, they will be instantly recognizable when you see them, the colors and all that because dragons have personalities in the books, and it will be great to see that come to life. And the dragon riders. All of that is very good.
The eighth season of game of Thrones It cannot be eliminated, that is clear, but House of Dragon could be what the fandom needs to leave its bitter mark behind. Viewers want nothing to do with David Benioff and DB Weiss, the showrunners who jettisoned years of history in the world of Westeros to deliver a conclusion written with the poorest care; now they fear what they can do with The Problem of the Three Bodies, a popular science fiction novel that they will adapt for Netflix in the form of a series. Only time will tell us the result of such a project.
Although Daenerys ended up very badly in game of Thrones, the Targaryens will have the opportunity to do better in House of the Dragon (maybe), a series inspired by Blood and Fire, a book by Martin in which he explores the ancient days of the powerful noble family. The story takes place 300 years before what is observed in the series, a conflict known in the lore of A Song of Ice and Fire as the Dance of the Dragons. Rhaenyra Targaryen has aspiring to the throne but they are banned by Aegon II, both are children of King Viserys I although of different mothers, and both have the same desires to seize power. The above unleashes a surprising fight involving dragon violence, something we all definitely want to see in the new series. Of course, the production has required a bit more budget, as the action takes place in a time when winged creatures were something much more common.
House of dragon premieres on HBO on January 1, 2022.
