Innovating in a market like smartphones, where competition is so brutal, is quite complicated. In fact, the feeling for many people is that a period of consolidation had been reached in which only a few brands were able to surprise in terms of design and innovation.
During those years, the improvements seemed to come in the software section, maintaining a very similar design line in the new releases. Nevertheless, there are brands that continue to bet on revolutionizing the world of smartphones with each presentation. Some people will remember, for example, when Samsung introduced the curved screen on the Samsung Galaxy Note Edge, a phone that served as a model for the rest of the industry, pushing the limits of displays to new horizons.
The truth is that if you put the latest market launches on a table, it is difficult to differentiate them a bit, especially if you put them face up. Some, such as the Samsung Galaxy S21, continue to innovate in design seeking that balance between an aesthetic and operational change, without forgetting to add new functions to the use we make of a mobile phone.
The truth is that the market demands changes that re-excite consumers, and that was done by Samsung in February 2019 with the launch of folding mobile phones on the consumer market.
From a futuristic prototype to your pocket
A few years ago, folding telephones were seen as something from science fiction, from a Steven Spielberg movie and with very little significance in people’s daily lives. Build a sturdy phone whose screen can be opened and bent by changing the phone’s format? Impossible. However, since February 2019, Samsung has been working on a generation of increasingly better folding phones and not only that, but also more accessible. It started with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold and was later joined by the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip.
From its introduction, it was clear that this family of devices had come to stay. Although all the beginnings are hard, during these two years or so Samsung has managed to polish them to the maximum and its usefulness is beyond doubt, not only for people who use their phone for work, but also for those who use it to enjoy of the best multimedia content.
In addition, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3 5G democratizes the price of folding phones even more, becoming an option at the height, in price, of the rest of the high-end options of the competition.
Flex Mode Hand Utility
The main feature of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 and Z Flip3 5G, the one that makes them completely unique, is its folding screen, and the Flex mode is responsible for allowing each user to take full advantage of their mobile phone.
First of all, it must be borne in mind that the two terminals can be used perfectly with the screen folded. In the case of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 5G completely thanks to its 6.2-inch Dynamic AMOLED screen; and in the case of Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3, in a more adjusted way using its 1.9-inch Super AMOLED screen, but also more than enough to interact with the most basic things that a mobile phone offers us, such as reading messages, checking the time or control music.
To activate Flex mode, you just have to unfold the screen and place the device in “L” mode. From there, the screen it is divided into two halves to take full advantage of all the functionalities of the new Samsung Galaxy Z.
In the case of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3, thanks to its opening in clamshell mode, when using the camera, the Flex mode works as follows: when we fold the phone in half, the shooting options that are usually found on the side top, move to the bottom for easy control and tripod function.
Camera functions on a flip phone
Perhaps the most used function on a phone is its camera. Whether it’s taking a traditional-style photo, a selfie, or taking part in a video call, it’s important that your phone is as versatile as possible. In the new Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 and Z Flip3 when opening it in the middle and putting it in an “L” shape, with the Flex mode activated we can:
Leaving the phone on a table while participating in a call, using its front camera. Use it as a tripod, important if for example we want to record a video and we want to avoid the typical tremors that we all have when recording. In the case of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3, too we can use the main camera of the phone to take a selfie, being able to see on its small screen what the result will be, like a mirror.
Productivity on the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3 screen
We have already talked in other articles about the possibilities offered by a phone with these characteristics. If there are many people who are already used to working on a traditional phone, it is easy to imagine what it means to be able to open it in half and make it even bigger. This is even more important in a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold3, which includes compatibility with its S Pen to be able to take and digitize notes or also mark important aspects in any document.
In this sense, the key is the multitasking mode, which allows us to open up to three applications at the same time and interact with each other. Open for example an application to make a video call and, in the other half, open a text document to take notes.
Samsung’s commitment to folding mobile phones has been clear. First, developing the most innovative phones that we can find in the market. Secondly, giving reasons to overcome the prejudices of low resistance (its structure and aluminum hinge are the proof), and thirdly, bringing it closer to a greater part of consumers, with a clear bet on the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3. With all this, it is clear that the potential and utility offered by folding mobiles it is beyond question.
