The first thing you should know is that one of the consequences of losing your job is that you are also automatically discharged from the mandatory contribution. But, the voluntary Continuation to the Compulsory regime gives you the possibility of continuing to contribute in the five branches that the institute offers.

Disability Insurance, as well as Retirement, Unemployment and Old Age insurance offer you the possibility of continuing to make contributions to your individual account and continue to accumulate weeks of contributions. The main benefit is that you can access a pension in a better economic condition.
This is also known as Mode 40, which is a workers’ right, but it is important that you take into account that if you do not do it within a maximum period of 5 years, counting from when you were terminated from your job , Voluntary Continuation may be lost.
One of the conditions established by the IMSS is that people must have contributed at least 52 weeks in the last 5 years before being discharged from the institute. In case of complying with this, the worker can request to be discharged with his last salary or with a higher one.
You should know that doing this procedure is free and due to the current health emergency, it can be done online but you must have the following documents at hand:
Unique Population Registry Code (CURP) Social Security Number (SSN) Email
Once you have registered in the system, you also have the option of paying the fees from home by means of a bank transfer through the financial institution’s portal or mobile application.
To do so, you just have to follow these steps:
1. You should have your Social Security number and the latest proof of payment on hand.
2. Enter your bank’s portal or application and record the following information:
CLABE Bank account number Name of the beneficiary, in this case IMSS Reference, which is the insured’s social security number
3. Once you have finished with the payment, you must send the proof to the email firstname.lastname@example.org, as well as the last proof of payment.

One of the disadvantages of continuing voluntarily in the mandatory regime is that you do not have the right to receive medical attention, but the Family Health Insurance allows you to do so and extend it to any member of the family nucleus.
In this way, they will be able to access the medical, surgical, pharmaceutical, hospital and maternity services that the IMSS provides. To be able to enroll in this scheme, the interested party must pay an annual fee per affiliate.
