Italian police arrest right-wing extremist, suspected attack foiled

The 22-year-old suspect is suspected in particular of planning an attack and Nazi propaganda. The operation, carried out by investigators from Genoa, targeted a dozen other people, in Savona, Genoa, Turin, Perugia, Bologna and Palermo. They are suspected of belonging to the Nuovo Ordine Sociale (New Social Order) group, a violent organization.

The group had posted anti-Semitic, misogynist and neo-Nazi content online. A similar attack to the one targeting a mosque in Christchurch, New Zealand in March 2019 or the 2011 shooting on the Norwegian island of Utoya, which mainly targeted young people, was envisaged.

The police got wind of this network while investigating a minor who was friends with the suspect arrested in Savona.
