The world of football in general and LaLiga in particular are determined to explore the avenues opened by digital platforms and the crypto economy as a way to diversify their businesses and shore up their viability. Proof of this is the last agreement that the organization chaired by Javier Tebas has just signed with Sorare -French fantasy football company- for market NFTs of all the championship players.
Sorare is already known by football and crypto fans in Spain, since it is the company owned by the footballer Gerard piqu and other teammates on the pitch like Antoine Griezmann and Rio Ferdinand.
Each NFT is a unique product and its ownership can be publicly verifiable via the blockchain. The agreement will allow fantasy football fans, collectors and players to freely trade and play with digital cards from LaLiga players.
The French company underlines in a statement the importance that the operation has for them, “since it is the first signed with one of the major leagues in the world.” His plans are to sign similar agreements with each of the top 20 soccer leagues before the end of 2022.
The agreement, which includes both LaLiga Santander (first division) and LaLiga Smartbank (second division), is also an important advance for LaLiga, which enters the NFT space for the first time, whose commercialization this year already exceeds 150 million dollars in sales.
According to Javier Tebas, president of LaLiga,“We are always looking for innovative formulas to offer our fans new experiences and expand the appeal of our competition, the best in the world. This agreement with Sorare, one of the most exciting NFT projects, allows us to reach new audiences around the world and it offers existing fans new ways to engage with the players and the clubs they follow. “
For its part,Nicolas Julia, CEO and Co-Founder of Sorare, “NFTs are the future of global sports fans, allowing fans to come together and feel like they can control the game they love.”
The gaming experience that Sorare offers help LaLiga and its Clubs expand their brand internationally and reach new audiences, including crypto lovers in the United States and Asia, where Sorare is experiencing rapid growth.
That line opens the door to new forms of income for LaLiga clubs, through a totally new category of licenses.
