In an interview with ‘Marca’, Ander Herrera explains how he is living the experience of sharing a dressing room with Leo Messi. And he does it through an anecdote in a rondo, an exercise closely linked to the style of Barça.
“One of the things that has surprised me the most with Messi, since he arrived, is that he does not relax even in the rounds. In each club the rounds have rules: it is not worth raising the ball, one or two touches, you cannot repeat pass to the same player … but Leo, on the first day, was not wrong once, even if they were new rules. Anyone ‘eats’ going downtown many times, but he doesn’t. For a reason, he has been number one for 15 years. “
Ander Herrera also entered the comparison with the other members of the trident: Neymar and Mbappé. For the midfielder, all three are unique, although each one with its own characteristics.
“Kylian is the best in the world with spaces; ‘Ney’ is the best in fantasy, imagination, in making a play that nobody expects; and Messi is the best in everything else: in understanding the game, in knowing when to play in long and when in short, in knowing what to play at any given moment. Leo could be the best right-back, the best left-back … everything except goalkeeper. “
The former Zaragoza and Athletic player also referred to the situation at Barça and was less pessimistic than most. For him, the win at Bayern’s Camp Nou did not show Barça’s true level.
He explained it like this: “The other day, when Barca-Bayern finished [0-3], I commented to a culé friend, in our WhatsApp group, not to be pessimistic. I started to look at the squad and nobody would rule out a team with De Jong, Busquets, Coutinho, Pedri, Agüero, Dembelé, Depay, Ansu Fati … For me Barca still has a squad. The Bayern thing was not real because of the casualties they had that day. “
