A Cape Coral man is behind bars in the Lee County Jail on charges of possession and dissemination of child pornography. The arrest came after an investigation by the police department’s felony unit that took at least six months.
Detectives received a report from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children warning about an Internet user transmitting child pornography through his email account.
Patrick G’grady of the Cape Coral Police Department said that through the investigation “detectives were able to obtain subpoenas and search warrants on devices and emails and this led us to obtain a search warrant and indeed it was found that he possessed child pornography and that it had been transmitted ”.
According to the police, the user of the email from which child pornographic images were sent belonged to Don Edward Oakes, 29 years old.
“I’m not going to say what kind of photos we found but they were disturbing and disgusting,” said Cape Coral police, who called on parents to be vigilant with their children.
“Try to have a good relationship with them to talk openly about these things and warn them that if someone is taking photos or videos of something that is happening and with which they do not feel comfortable, let them say so,” the authorities warned.
It is not the first time that the suspect has been arrested, in total there have been eight, for different cases, from alleged possession of drugs, DUI for driving under the influence of drink, robbery and now faces five charges of possession of child pornography and another five for allegedly transmit it over the internet.
