Miami :
After the winter storm that left millions of people in Texas without electricity for up to three days, now some citizens complain that they have received electricity bills of 5,000 dollars (just over 100,000 pesos), for less than a week of energy.
The Dallas Morning News published a photo of a user’s electricity bill for $ 5,717.90 and according to Business Insider, residents in the Fort Worth area have been charged $ 1,000 a day for electricity.
CPS Energy, which distributes electricity in San Antonio, warned that there would be “exorbitant” increases in electricity charges and that it would try to minimize them by extending the payment periods for up to 10 years.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott told lawmakers that he would work on solutions to prevent families from going into debt for life to pay for electricity.
The increase does not affect those who have fixed electricity plans, but those who have variable rate plans.
